Letter to the Editor
To the editor: A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to witness a performance of “Release,” a powerful play performed at Berkshire Community College and created in conjunction with Second Street, Second Chances.
We still talk about the impact this performance had on us.
Second Street serves as a one-stop referral source for previously incarcerated individuals from Berkshire County. The play tells the actual stories of several women who have struggled through addiction, abuse, poverty and, ultimately, incarceration. Their stories were told by a troupe of talented actors relating the pain, isolation and family trauma these individuals endured.
We were inspired by the courage and resilience of these women against great odds, and we thank them for their willingness to open their lives to our community.
We hope that this play will eventually be presented to a larger audience. It deserves to be seen. Second Street is clearly doing important work in our community.
